Asian Art Museum, San Francisco
Extracted focuses on the histories of gold extraction in Northern California as an origin of speculation, with particular attention to the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. It is an investigation of narratives of the future produced by the legacy of prospecting and a contemplation of cultural resilience via the trajectories of attempted exclusionary politics. Extracted is a trilogy, presented as an exhibition in three parts at the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco from November 2015- August 2016. It included a trilogy of videos with sound, a lexicon of drawings and textiles. The project incorporated objects from the museum’s collection and a series of public programming. Curated by Marc Mayer.
